Starcity is a community orientated housing space in San Francisco. With two locations, Starcity aims to provide modern living experiences with affordable prices. With their launch, we anticipated a growing need for Starcity residents to keep track and schedule community events as well as maintaining smooth communication between the community and the residents.
We used paper prototyping in order to iterate multiple sequences of screens with different visual features. Through Wizard of Oz user testing, we created a general wireframe for the user journey. We took user feedback into consideration when making certain visual choices and creating information hierarchy in order to maximize learnability and efficiency of the app. For instance, a calendar format was preferred over a timeline for scheduling. Participants also mentioned that filtering events before viewing the calendar made it easier to search for events they wanted.
After finalizing the wireframe, we made a high fidelity prototype of the app. The result is an app with multiple calendars for the user's viewing. By doing this, we were able to respond to the feedback given during the earlier user testing.
As a form of feedback and testing, we made an interactive prototype and conducted eyetracking tests with users. The test was able to check the usability and effectiveness of the design choices we made, especially with icons and colors. The interactive prototype was also sent out through UserTesting, allowing people who didn't know about the app to test it out and answer our questions for feedback.
